Community: Northwest, Wilmington
Organization: Jefferson Street Center, Inc. Funding: $99,900
Will renovate a gym, enabling a child care center to use the space and meet new COVID-19 operating requirements. The center serves essential workers and low-income residents. The gym and other building space will also serve as a neighborhood hub where residents can access COVID-19 supports such as a food pantry, education, and prevention and care resources. Will hire a coordinator to increase awareness of COVID-19 prevention and care resources and to support implementation of the Washington Heights Blueprint Community Revitalization Plan.
Community: West Side, Wilmington
Organization: Cornerstone West CDC Funding: $49,950
Will hire a Healthy Neighborhoods Manager to engage residents and implement existing elements of the West Side Revitalization Plan, including park revitalization and use, arts and beautification, community gardens, and healthy food access.
Organization: Be Ready CDC Funding: $99,998
Will complete architectural plans to replace a block of vacant and deteriorating buildings with affordable rental units on Fourth Street in Wilmington, making progress on the affordable housing element of the West Side Revitalization Plan. Will hire a coordinator to engage residents to understand and address COVID-19-related community needs and connect residents to prevention/care resources.
Community: Eastside, Wilmington
Organization: Central Baptist CDC Funding: $99,900
Will develop and implement a sustainable business model to increase healthy food access, addressing both urgent needs and long-term solutions. Will conduct a housing market analysis to identify housing issues exacerbated by COVID-19 as well as long-term solutions for safe, healthy and affordable housing for low-income residents.
Organization: Habitat for Humanity of NCC Funding: $49,950
Will re-employ a Neighborhood Revitalization Coordinator to assess COVID-19 impacts on Eastside residents, engage residents in identifying community needs and priorities. Will implement elements of the existing neighborhood plan including resident engagement in blight remediation and beautification projects.
Community: Southbridge, Wilmington
Organization: South Wilmington Planning Network Funding: $49,950
Will engage residents in the creation of a refreshed Southbridge Neighborhood Plan, building on the Wilmington 2028 Comprehensive Plan. The plan will include detailed action steps to address neighborhood priorities in areas such as housing, green space and recreation facilities, economic development, transportation, etc. In coordination with a planned Health Assessment and Action Plan along the Route 9 corridor, the project willassess and address COVID-19-related impacts andconnect residents with COVID-19 prevention/care resources.
Community: Route 9 Corridor, New Castle County
Organization: Route 9 Master Plan Monitoring Committee Funding: $49,950
Will research and develop action plans for a backbone organization(s) for the Route 9 corridor (e.g., community development corporation), and job creation opportunities in landscaping and housing repair to provide employment opportunities, public green space maintenance, and affordable services to low-income homeowners. In coordination with a planned Health Assessment and Action Plan along the Route 9 corridor, the project will seek to understand COVID-19 vulnerability and work to mitigate the impacts of the pandemic by addressing social determinant of health concerns, connecting residents to COVID-19 prevention and care opportunities, and by seeking to provide job training to increase employment.
Community: Wilmington/New Castle County - Special Population: Latino Community
Organization: Latin American Community Center Funding: $49,950
Will bring the voice of the Latino community to decision-making tables and increase civic engagement and advocacy among the Latino community. Will hire a bilingual resource navigator to mitigate COVID-19 impacts on the Spanish-speaking community, including food security, employment and housing. Will connect Latino community with culturally competent COVID-19 resources for testing, prevention and care.
Community: Dover and Western Kent
Organization: NCALL, Inc. Funding: $49,950
Will work with residents to assess and address COVID-19-related impacts on housing, financial security, food security, and employment in at-risk communities in Kent County, including Dover Housing Authority communities. Will develop an action plan based on the results of the assessment. Residents will be connected with COVID-19 prevention and care resources.
Community: Georgetown/Western Sussex
Organization: The Food Bank Funding: $49,950
Will host mobile food pantries in vulnerable communities, especially targeting Spanish-speaking families. Will distribute COVID-19 care kits and address food security needs that have worsened due to COVID-19.
Organization: La Esperanza Funding: $49,950
Will hire a bilingual guide to expand its Resource Navigation and Family Coaching Program to a virtual platform and an additional public library location in Western Sussex County. Hispanic families will be connected with culturally competent COVID-19 prevention and care resources, mitigating the impact of COVID-19 on food security, employment, and housing.
Organization: Southeast Rural Community Assistance Project Funding: $25,500
Will work with residents of the distressed New Hope neighborhood in Ellendale to assess impacts of COVID-19 including food security, employment, and housing. Will assess existing housing challenges including deterioration, unsafe and unhealthy environments, and develop an action plan to address them, in collaboration with the Ellendale Civic and Community Improvement Association. Will connect residents to COVID-19 prevention, testing and care resources.
